Weil Thanathan vom Himmel fiel.

So spricht Thanathan zu Athanasia,
Sein Lächeln strahlt so sonderbar:

Was hinter Deinen Augen liegt,
Es wundert mich zu Tode!
Der Tau an Deinen Lippen soll die meinigen verzieren!»
Und durch das Dunkel hallt es:
Vernunft ist nichts ! Gefühl ist alles!
«Sternschnuppen glimmen lauter jetzt
Und spinnen reibungsvoll ein Netz
Von der Sonne Flammenspitzen her zu mir:
Ich sehe Gott in Dir!
In Deinen Schoß will ich die Tränen sähen
Die unentwegt nach Innen liefen!
Kometen will ich weinen,
Regen in des Kosmos Tiefen!»
Die Wahrheit! Schrei´ sie heraus, Du Tor!
Nimm´ Deinem Herz die Last!
Und klag´ sie so in der Nacht Ohr,
Daß deren Schwärze sanft erblaßt:
Der ist ein Narr, der sie nicht stößt,
Sie zärtlich in die Tiefe reißt
Und ihr, auch wenn es Furcht einflößt,

Länger als zu lange mußte Thanathan noch warten.
Er brachte Athanasia die allerschönsten Gaben.
Doch wollt´ sie weder hören noch sich an seinem Blicke laben!
Er malmte sich das Hirn und materte sich zum Erbrechen!
Thanathan erstarrte und sein Blut tranken die Raben,
Selbst der Anblick seines Todes woll´t die Liebe nicht bestechen!
An Athanasias Ängsten mußte Thanathan zerbrechen
Und an seinen bleichen Knochen nagen nunmehr nur noch Ratten!
In Wirklichkeit jedoch ist Thanathan niemals gestorben.
Und sie, sie hat ihn stets geliebt, die ganze lange Zeit;
Zu seinem kalkulierten Glück ging Thanathan zu weit,
Denn egal wie groß das Leiden war, Gott ist auf seinen Seiten.
Zwar war er für ein solches Spiel zuvor niemals bereit,
Doch Märchen sind für Menschen da, uns Träume zu bereiten,
Und Träume sind zum Leben da, die Wahrheit sie begleiten:
So hat er bis zum Letzten Athanasias Gunst erworben.

Thanathan had to wait longer than too long.
He brought Athanasia, the most beautiful gifts.
