Снег сыпал до рассвета,
Но стриженых, без шапок и без шляп,
С фамилией на бирке,
В районы Индигирки
Из камер забирали на этап.
Там было множество мастей,
Улыбок, жестов, новостей,
И посмотреть бы это всё со стороны —
Как будто в стареньком кино.
Друзья, не видевшись давно,
Сошлись на встречу после длительной войны.
Начальничек конвоя
В колонну всех по трое
Погнал бегом через тюремный двор,
А у ворот на вышках
Со звёздами мальчишки
Заученно проверили затвор.
Один метнулся на «рывок»,
Но головой в сугроб кивок,
И тело за ноги в подвал поволокли,
И наплевать теперь ему
На золотую Колыму
И на раскопки крайнесеверной земли.
Но сквозь метели сетку
Не разглядеть «запретку»,
Стрелок с винтовкой малость оплошал,
И пуля хоть куснула,
Но сердце обогнула,
Беглец ещё прерывисто дышал.
В тюремном лазарете
Хирург при слабом свете
Доставленного сразу же на стол.
Накрашенная ярко
Девчонка-санитарка
Спешила и готовила укол.
Он заключенный — ну и что ж?
Зато собою так хорош!
И сколько смертными статьями не суди,
Но вот уже в который раз
Не оторвать ей робких глаз
От этой сильной забинтованной груди.
В натопленной палате
Под простыней, в халате,
На стенке даже радио поёт.
Торопятся недели,
За решёткой звон капели,
Беглец уже и на ноги встает.
И так проходит день за днём,
А сердце девичье огнём:
Знать, для любви решёток нет и нету крыш.
Девчонка шепчет: «Мой родной,
Мне без тебя не жить одной,
Прокуратуре это разве объяснишь?»
И вот апрельский вечер,
Охрана горбит плечи,
Несётся санмашина через двор.
Взглянули по привычке:
В кабине — медсестричка,
Работникам — «зелёный светофор».
И что на утро было там!
Хлопот конвою и постам:
Найти ни зека, ни сестричку не могли.
И непонятно, почему
Им наплевать на Колыму
И на раскопки крайнесеверной земли?
