В некотором царстве, в некотором государстве было озеро. Берега у этого озера
были высокие и обрывистые. Повадился ходить на берег чёрт. И ходил каждую ночь.
Как только настанет полночь, выходит из воды, сядет на берег и закричит:
«Год года хуже! Год года хуже!»
Надоело это мужику — он жил недалеко от берега. Припас мужик березовую дубину и стал ждать. Вот наступила полночь, выходит из воды черт. Сел на берег, поджал
ноги под себя и ну кричать:
«Год года хуже! Год года хуже!»
А мужик подкрался сзади да как тяпнет дубиной черта по затылку, тот только и крикнул:
«Хуже не будет!»
И скрылся в воде. Больше с той поры черт не выходил на берег.
Lyrics translation
In a certain Kingdom, in a certain state, there was a lake. The shores of this lake
they were high and steep. The devil got into the habit of going to the beach. And went every night.
As soon as it's midnight, it comes out of the water, sits on the Bank and screams:
"Year of the year is worse! Year of the year is worse!"
The man got tired of it — he lived not far from the coast. The man saved a birch club and waited. Here comes midnight, the devil comes out of the water. Sat on the Bank, pursed his lips
feet under themselves and well shout:
"Year of the year is worse! Year of the year is worse!"
And the man crept up behind and as he bit the devil on the back of the head with a club, he just shouted:
"It won't get any worse!"
And disappeared into the water. More from that time the devil did not go ashore.
