took them aboard our recon vessel,
and probed them, all the way through.

The signals come from machines,

That’s who we need to contact.
(Zon) Meat —
made the machines.
(Ving) It’s ridiculous,
meat can’t make machines.
(Zon) These creatures are the only sentient race in this sector,
and they’re made out of meat.
(Kban) Maybe they’re like the Orfenon,
a carbon based intelligence that goes through a meat phase.
(Zon) They’re born meat and they die meat.
We studied them for several of their lifespans.
(Kban) Fair enough, but maybe, they’re like the Reddelok,
only part meat.
(Zon) We thought of that.
Because they do have a meat face, like the Reddelok,
but as I told you, we probed them.
(Kban) Their brains?
(Zon) Oh, there’s a brain all right —
it’s just that the brain is made out of meat.
(Kban) But there’s a thinking system?
(Zon) The brain thinks — the meat.
