Сегодня, в половине четвёртого утром,
Меня разбудил чей-то крик.
Звали на помощь, и голос был странно знаком.
Сев на кровати, я продолжала
Вслушиваться в тишину.
Предрассветные сумерки, взгляды со стен
И безмолвный грязно-серый пейзаж за окном.
И, поскольку было уже не до сна,
Я раскрыла книгу,
Но крик всё стоял в ушах.
Я раскинула карты и стала гадать,
Но выходил полный бред,
А в душе поднимался страх.
И начался день, и, выйдя из дома,
Я окунулась в мутный поток
Каждодневных забот.
И при каждой встрече с кем-нибудь из знакомых
Я облегчённо вздыхала:
«Нет, вроде не тот».
И я звонила по полузабытым номерам,
И только один из них
Не решилась набрать…
А вечером, дома, я сказала себе:
«До чего бестолковый день был сегодня!»
И завалилась спать.

At three-thirty this morning,
I was awakened by a scream.
They were calling for help, and the voice was oddly familiar.
I sat up in bed and continued
Listen to the silence.
The pre-dawn light, the views from the walls
And the silent, dirty-gray landscape outside the window.
And, since there was no time for sleep,
I opened the book,
But the scream was still in my ears.
I spread out my cards and began to guess,
But it was completely delusional,
But fear was rising in my soul.
And the day began, and going out of the house,
I plunged into the murky stream

And every time I meet someone I know
I breathed a sigh of relief.
"No, I don't think so."
And I called half-forgotten numbers,
