Поснули люди, тілько місяць ніби човник над водою.
І тілько десь у далині в гаю співають солов'ї.
Аж чую регіт, плеск води, я носа висунув із хати.
Дивлюсь — пливуть на бережок русалки, сині та хвостаті.
І, настиливши осоки, вони лягли біля ріки.
Їх місяць гріє, ніч пливе собі повільно та неспішно.
А я дивлюсь на тих русалок, мені сумно й трохи смішно.
Дарма, що волни мертв’яки, бо мають чорні язики,
Неначе відьми на шабаші.
Гей-ла-ла-ла-ла-лей…
Все, що було, те загуло, та скілько всього проплило,
Де скілько душ русалки ті колись залоскотали.
Та цар Охрім на дні морскім собі у жони взяв русалку…
Небо падає вниз, вниз!
Настане день, засяє сонечко, в саду запахнуть квіти,
Русалки зчезнуть у пітьмі…

It's night and the stars are shining over my head.
People fell asleep, only a month like a boat on the water.
And only somewhere far away in a grove of nightingales sing.
I can hear laughter, water splashing, and I put my nose out of the house.
I look — mermaids, blue and tailed, are floating on the Bank.
And, having laid the sedges, they lay down by the river.
Their month warms, the night floats itself slowly and unhurriedly.
And I look at those mermaids, I feel sad and a little funny.
No wonder the waves are dead, because they have black tongues,
Like witches on a Sabbath.
Gay-La-La-La-La-Ley…
All that was, then passed, and how many just sailed,
Where how many souls mermaids those when tickled.
But the king of Okhrim at the bottom of the sea took a mermaid in his hand…
The sky is falling down, down!
The day will come, the sun will Shine, the flowers will smell in the garden,
Mermaids grapple in the dark…
