The page contains the lyrics and English translation of the song "Einer Toten" by Bacio di Tosca.
Lyrics
Das aber kann ich nicht ertragen,
Daß so, wie sonst, die Sonne lacht;
Daß wie in deinen Lebenstagen
Die Uhren gehn, die Glocken schlagen,
Einförmig wechseln Tag und Nacht;
Daß, wenn des Tages Lichter schwanden,
Wie sonst der Abend uns vereint;
Und daß, wo sonst dein Stuhl gestanden,
Schon andre ihre Plätze fanden,
Und nichts dich zu vermissen scheint;
Indessen von den Gitterstäben
Die Mondesstreifen schmal und karg
In deine Gruft hinunterweben,
Und mit gespenstig trübem Leben
Hinwandeln über deinen Sarg.
Lyrics translation
But this I cannot bear, that the sun should laugh as usual; that as in your days of life the clocks should go, the bells should strike, and change in one form Day and night; that when the lights were dim in the day, as in the evening, we should be united; and that where else your throne stood, others found their places, and nothing seems to miss you; while from the bars the strips of Moon should weave narrowly and sparsely down into your tomb, and walk over your coffin with ghostly gloom.
