Francesco a quel tempo in Gubbio viveva
E sulle vie del contado
Apparve un lupo feroce

Di quella gente Francesco ebbe pena,

il luogo dove il lupo viveva

Raccontano che così Francesco parlò
E su quella terra mise pace
